New Movies Coming Out August 2013
This month is going to be a great movie month. In fact, these are some of the top new movies coming out in August. Just remember that when you see them in theatres, you’re helping to support the movie industry. If you wait too long they may not be playing at your local theatre anymore.
1. Escape From Planet Earth
A sci-fi comedy featuring the voice talents of Brendan Fraser, Sarah Jessica Parker and Jessica Alba among others, this animated feature showcases a battle between two alien civilizations based on their individual views of our planet. It will be interesting to see whether audiences like this one is as much as they did last year’s Ice Age Continental Drift, which made over $900 million at the box office.
2. The Mortal Instruments City of Bones
This latest movie adaptation is based on a wildly popular young adult fantasy novel by Cassandra Clare called The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones about a girl named Clary Fray who turns out to be the descendent of an ancient line of humans that are involved in a secret war against demons.
Although this is the first movie based on a book from Cassandra Clare (she has two more books published and another due out next year), it stars Lily Collins who most recently appeared in the mirror-based horror film The Ring 3D as well as Jamie Campbell Bower of both Harry Potter and Twilight fame.

3. We’re the Millers
In this comedy, Jennifer Aniston stars as a single mother who has to pretend to be part of a family in order to smuggle weed over the border from Mexico. She enlists the aid of a group of misfits including a newly-out gay teen and one of her son’s friends so she doesn’t have to go by herself. This is a feel-good film that will be sure to make audiences laugh, and the cast includes Will Poulter, Nicholas Braun and Emma Roberts.
4. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones
Although it’s only coming out in August (in the USA anyway), this movie was actually released in three other countries over the past few months. Fans of the book should recognize a great deal about this film including its preternatural themes as well as key elements from the books. Unfortunately, many of them have already expressed their anger at how director Harald Zwart has changed many aspects such as character backstories and plot points in order to make it more romantic.
