Located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM Ahmedabad or IIMA) is a business school. After IIM Calcutta, IIM Ahmedabad is the second Indian Institute of Management. IIM Ahmedabad was established in 1961. The founder director of the institute was Ravi J. Mathhai. Indian physicist Vikram Sarabhai and Indian businessman Kasturbhai Lalbhai were the other notable founding figures of the institute.

Indian Institute of Management Bangalore is a management and an institute of national importance. IIM Bangalore was founded in 1973. It is the third IIM established after IIM Calcutta and IIM Ahmedabad. According to the Financial Times, IIM Bangalore was ranked 19th in its Masters in Management Ranking 2016 and also it was ranked 49th in its Global MBA Ranking 2017. Indian Institute of Technology is also abbreviated as IIT Roorkee or IITR. IIT Roorkee was formerly known as University of Roorkee and Thomason College of Civil Engineering. Located in Roorkee, IITR was established in 1847 during the time of British by the then lieutenant governor Sir James Thomason. Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee is the oldest technical institution in Asia. It gained the university status in 1949 and in 2001, it was converted into an Indian Institute of Technology. It was the 7th IIT to be established.

The name of the school is named after a Mechanical Engineer graduate of IIT Bombay who is Dr. Shailesh J. Mehta.
