A Structured Schedule

In general, you’ll have set times to wake up, eat, go to various activities, and sleep. The exact times and activities will depend on the rehab center you go to. But in general, you’ll wake up early and go to sleep early too.

For meals, you’ll usually eat with others so you can form some bonds and support systems you can rely on after you’re done with rehab. And usually, after dinner, you’ll have a little bit of personal time to relax, meditate, read, or do whatever you wish.

You’ll usually attend therapy in 2 forms: individual and group.

In individual therapy, you’ll work with a counselor to figure out what drove you to use in the first place. Most often, this has to do with some unaddressed trauma in your past.

Once you’ve identified what these issues are, then the therapist can teach you some healthier outlets that’ll help you heal and live a healthier life with drugs and/or alcohol.

In group therapy, you’ll get to go around and speak about your experiences. This can be either in the past or in the present (in rehab).

Hearing what others are going through can help you feel stronger and more able to tackle recovery. This also provides you with a chance to make some friends who you can stay sober with, back in normal life.

Alternative Therapies

The best drug rehab programs will have also have alternative therapies available. The best way to heal from an addiction is to make sure you’re healthy not only in the body, but also the spirit and mind.

You might be able to participate in activities like:

  • Yoga
  • Meditation
  • Massage
  • Addiction therapy
  • Art therapy
  • Music therapy
  • Hiking
  • Swimming
  • Horseback riding

When you can concentrate on healing and strengthening both your body and mind, then it’ll be easier to deal with addiction when you’re faced with difficult situations during the rest of your life.

So what do you do in rehab? While every facility will be different, the final answer is the same: you get on the right path and walk the road to recovery and sobriety.

It might be scary to even think of rehab, but once you make that step towards it, you can only be headed in the right direction.
