2024 Olympics: What to Expect and Who to Watch Out For
Thu. Dec 19th, 2024

It’s not too soon to start looking forward to the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. They will take place in Paris, one of the most inspirational cities in the world. It has hosted the event twice before in 1900 and 1924. This will be its third time of hosting, and it’s exactly 100 years since the last time. More than 300 events in 32 sports will take place in Paris and extend to other cities across France. Over 10,000 athletes from more than 200 countries will take part. Most events will start on 26 July and go on until 11 August 2024.

How do athletes qualify?

Athletes qualify for the Olympic Games in many different ways. Some of the National Federations have special Olympic Qualifying Tournaments. Others use existing competitions to select teams or athletes. Others base selection on ranking or require athletes to reach a minimal distance or time in their discipline. National Olympic Committees (NOCs) submit entries for the games.

There are also many ways to bet on the Olympics. Sportsbooks offer futures odds well in advance. Sports bettors in the U.S. can place their bets on a legal online sportsbook. Some of the most popular bets are on track and field athletics, soccer, and basketball.

Where are the venues?

The Olympic Village will be situated 15 minutes from the city center. Of the 35 venues, fourteen will be located close to the village. Spectators will enjoy watching sports events held along the Seine, in the center of Paris and further afield. Soccer will take place in six other cities. The sailing events will be held in Marseilles and surfing in Tahiti. This will break the record for the farthest medal event to be held outside the host city.

Which athletes should you look out for?

Some athletes to look out for are Armand du Plantis and Sydney McLaughlin, who were named male and female Athlete of the Year at the World Athletics Awards in December 2022. Du Plantis is a Swedish pole-vaulter and McLaughlin is an American 400m hurdler.

Yulimar Rojas from Venezuela is the women’s triple jump star and is likely to be a favorite at the 2024 Olympics. Eliud Kipchoge from Kenya is someone to look out for in the marathon. Erriyon Knighton and Athing Mu are young American athletes that will be exciting to watch in track and field events.

Swimmer Katie Ledecky will want to earn at least two more gold medals. This means she can break Jenny Thompson’s all-time Olympic record of gold medals for female swimmers. Caeleb Dressel, a male American swimmer, was dominant in Tokyo and could set some new records in Paris.

What does the new logo represent?

The Olympic host cities are always chosen well in advance so they have enough time to prepare. The logo has to set the tone and embody the essence of the host city.

The logo design for 2024 is a one-color icon of three elements. A gold medal and a flame merge to form an image of Marianne, the personification of liberty, equality, and fraternity. Clothing, signs, merchandise, etc. will carry this logo.

What new sport will make its debut at Paris 2024?

Breaking turned out to be such a popular event at the Youth Olympic Games in 2018 that it will be included in the 2024 Olympics. In this style of hip-hop dancing, b-boys and b-girls go face to face in solo battles and improvise moves to the beat of DJ tracks. They are judged on their speed, technicality, creativity, and rhythm. Many young spectators are likely to watch this event.
