The man, who lives in Tokyo, asked the court to issue the temporary injunction against Yahoo because he said its search engine results linking him to the group contained false information, sources said. The high court made the order on Oct. 30, 2017, on the grounds that the information was libelous. However, Yahoo responded by asking the Tokyo District Court for a formal trial. The man then filed a lawsuit with the district court in December, insisting the results be deleted. The first hearing of the trial requested by Yahoo is likely to be held in the near future, according to the sources. The Tokyo District Court first ordered Yahoo to delete a total of 11 search results in December 2015 and August 2016. In response, Yahoo appealed to the Tokyo High Court. Then, the high court issued the order to Yahoo on Oct. 30. The Supreme Court ruled on the criteria for deleting search results for the first time in January 2017, saying, “Deletion is allowed when benefits from the nondisclosure of private information apparently exceed freedom of expression in search results.” In addition to this, the high court also pointed out that deletion should be made if it is obvious that search results are false or have no public merit in cases where a reputation is damaged.  ]]>
