The thinnest iPad yet gets a performance bump; I was very disappointed when the iPad Air 2 wasn’t as thin as advertised. But the iPad Air 2 was every bit as thin as it was described. Apple managed to make the iPad Air 2 slimmer at its thickest point than the iPad Air, but it still managed to have the same width.
While the iPad Air 2’s display is the same size as the iPad Air, it has gotten slimmer, and that means a reduction in the bezels. It is 14.6mm thick with the bezels measuring 4.9mm, which Apple says is the slimmest iPad yet. It is also just a centimeter thicker than the iPad Air.
The iPad Air 2 is lighter than its predecessor too at 402 grams. I still have no idea how they made it so thin. It is well under the 8.1mm of the iPad Air and yet is more than 11mm thicker than it. The slimmer body definitely makes it a better candidate for a travel companion.

That’s the same as the iPad Air. But it does get a few refinements, specifically to the display. Apple claims the iPad Air 2’s display is 25 per cent brighter and packs in twice the contrast of the original iPad Air. This means sharper and crisper images as well as deeper blacks. But it’s not just the display. The iPad Air 2 comes with the Touch ID scanner embedded in the home button, which makes for a secure tablet, allowing you to unlock it just by pressing a finger on it. Apple claims that the built-in camera can take photos with a low-light level of 3ft (90cm). But since the sensors of the new Touch ID sensor work only while the device is in motion, it does have an effect on the battery life. Still, for how much the iPad Air 2 is thinner, it packs in a lot of hardware and the extra processor ought to deliver a performance boost.
