How to Save Money on a Weekend Away

It’s that time of year where so many of us are dreaming of holidays. When we’re eventually allowed to travel again, it’s likely to be just in the UK. There are plenty of postcard-worthy places right here. From beautiful beaches to bustling cities, you can make the most of your weekend away no matter your budget.

Transport Options

Travelling in the UK is much cheaper than going abroad, so you can celebrate the fact you’re already saving money. Not to mention time. It’s quick and easy to travel around the UK. For example, trains from London to York only take a couple of hours. Taking public transport takes the hassle out of driving and you don’t have to worry about petrol or parking prices. Plus, if you book in advance and go off-peak, you can get some great deals.

Be Flexible

If you don’t feel comfortable booking a trip just yet, don’t worry, you can still save money. If you’re flexible with your weekend dates, you can score some fantastic last-minute prices. You don’t even have to be a particularly savvy searcher. Simply type in ‘last-minute deals’ and you’ll find plenty of websites offering you various discounts. Though it should be noted that some of these are better than others

Research Accommodation

Where you stay can have a huge impact on your trip costs. If you’re having an urban weekend getaway, make sure you do your hotel research. Or, you could stay in an Airbnb. Choosing this option means you can cook for yourself, rather than go out for every meal. If you’re planning on camping, research different sights. The most popular ones will have the most expensive rates, whereas there could be alternative ones not too far for much better costs.

Free Activities

You don’t have to break the bank on your itinerary. There are plenty of free activities you can do, no matter where you’re staying. Countryside or coastal trips lend themselves to beautiful walks and enjoying nature. Even if you’re a city, there is a simple joy in walking around and seeing the sights. Or you could check out galleries or museums which have free entry. Wherever you are in the UK, you don’t have to spend money to have fun.

There are plenty of ways to save money on a weekend getaway, no matter what kind of traveller you are or where you end up going. Do you have any travel plans for summer?
