Does it feel like we’ve been waiting for JAMB to share their cut-off marks forever? Well, if you count since January 2021, then yes, it has been a long time coming. Before we take a look at what to expect from JAMB cut-off marks for the 2021/2022 session, let’s recap how this whole process works.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), will be releasing the university cut-off marks soon. The board has released JAMB cutoff marks in recent times and each time, people are on the edge of their seats.

What Are Jambexam’s Cut-Off Marks?

JAMB cut-off marks are the minimum score required to be accepted into any of the JAMB undergraduate courses.

Towards this end, JAMB has released the new 5-point grading system which has replaced the previous 10-point scale.

How They Work?

Jamb cut-off marks for each course will be determined by the total number of candidates that apply for each course. The more candidates that apply for a given course, the lower the cut-off marks will be in order to reduce excess competition among candidates.

For example, if you apply for a course (like Medicine) with only 100 available slots, then even if you get a score of 150 in your UTME, you might not get admitted since there will be lots of other candidates scoring high grades who also want to get admitted into that particular course. On the other hand, if you apply for an understaffed course like mechanical engineering where there are 1000 slots but only 500 students apply, then your UTME score might be enough to get you admitted because the competition is low.

The Cut-Off Mark Depends On Your Universities Admission Policy

Most colleges and universities follow a cut-off mark system, which means your admission chances increase as you score more marks above the cut-off mark. If a university has a cut-off mark of 2580, for example, and you score 2500 on the test, your application will be considered for admission. However, if you have scored 2640 on the test, then your application will be given priority.

Review the range of scores provided by the university beforehand to understand if they have any specific range or cut-off marks. For example, some universities might accept students with scores within a certain range only. In such cases, the lowest or highest score within that range will be treated as the cut-off marks.
