Jimmy Kimmel responds to Donald Trump low ratings after Oscars jibe tweet President Donald Trump says the problem with the Oscars is “we don’t have Stars anymore,” except for him. Viewership of Sunday’s Academy Awards broadcast plunged to a record-low viewership of 26.5 million people. According to the Nielsen company, that’s a 20 percent drop from the 33 million people who watched last year’s show. Trump tweets Tuesday: “Lowest rated Oscars in HISTORY. Problem is, we don’t have Stars anymore – except your President (just kidding, of course)!” Sunday’s broadcast included a few barbs that host Jimmy Kimmel directed toward the White House.Kimmel swiftly replied with an allusion to Trump’s own rating issues, mimicking the president’s laissez faire use of the caps lock: “Thanks, lowest rated President in HISTORY.” According to FiveThirtyEight, President Trump’s current approval rating sits at 40.4 percent, with 54.3 percent of Americans polled disapproving of the job he’s doing. Kimmel also commented on a tweet from Donald Trump Jr. in which he used an emoji to indicate he hadn’t watched the Oscars. “You know that’s an authentic Trump hand because it’s gold and tiny,” Kimmel said.
