The developers of the free content management system “WordPress” have released version 4.9: The new version “Tipton” was named
after the US jazz musician Billy Tipton. In the new update, the developers have added new features in particular: So can a new
design completely install and test, and (as articles too) publish at a later, planned date. This can now be installed via the
customizer and saved for later – so menus, widgets or the header media can be planned for later.
WordPress 4.9 brings syntax highlighting and error checking to the HTML widget, custom CSS custom box, and plug-in and theme
editors. The latter also incorporate security mechanisms to prevent the production of PHP errors that would create a white
screen – but the use of other theme and plugin code editing solutions remains the better option.
One long-awaited novelty is the ability to use shortcodes in widgets without the need to activate more than one line of code.
There is also a new gallery widget and a button for adding media to the HTML widget, which now also supports embed. In addition,
it has been improved that sidebars and menus often end up in a matching area of the new theme when changing themes instead of
being assigned automatically. Furthermore, the user experience was improved when creating menus in the customizer.
Even under the hood, a lot has happened again. This improved the Customizer’s JS API and upgraded Mediaelement.js to version 4.2.
6. In addition, Codemirror – the script for syntax highlighting and linting – can of course also be used in themes and plugins,
and improvements have been made to roles and capabilities.
