Wickets In IPL

If you have watched the whole IPL 2023 without even missing a single match till the end of tournament then trust me, you have witnessed one of the best ever seasons of Indian premier league. There was no certainty for any team whether they would qualify or not even till the very last match of the season. Moreover, we saw many incredible bowling spells which led to more excitement in the match. Therefore, let’s look at the players in detail who have taken the most wickets in IPL 2023.

1.Mohammed Shami

The iconic bowler and Handsome cricketer of India Mohammed Shami owns the title of most wickets in IPL 2023 where he took 28 wickets in 17 ipl matches in the season and won the purple cap as well. If we look at his economy rate, it was around 8.04 which is pretty good in the short format game.

Gujarat Titans leading fast bowler, Shami has delivered quite good performances from last 2 seasons under the captainship of Hardik Pandya. Actually before coming in Gujarat Titan’s squad he was going through some average performances from a couple of years, but the moment he wore Gujarat’s jersey he has been deceiving modern t20 batsmans with his lethal pace.

Shami becomes quite dangerous when he gets even little bit of swing from the wicket, similarly in the GT vs DC match in ipl 2023 the pitch has decent grass on it and guess what, Shami delivered his best bowling performance of the season on that day by grabbing 4 wickets which included batsmans like Phil Salt, Rile Rossow, Manish Pandey and Priyam Garg.

2.Mohit Sharma

The bowler who has not picked from the last couple of years in IPL and made his comeback in place of Yash Dayal in IPL 2023, Mohit Sharma is truly an inspiration for the players out there who have lost the hopes for the future. Mohit has been really exceptional throughout the season where he played 14 IPL games and scalped 27 wickets and registered his name in 2nd position in terms of most wickets in IPL 2023.

Can you believe that he was actually playing as a net bowler for the team before making his comeback, the player who has represented India in international matches and gave some amazing performances when he was in the Chennai Super Kings in the past founded very tough to gain his place in a league tournament which is very unfortunate for a player like him.

He played a crucial role for Gujarat to enter in the final because of his ability to handle his nerves under pressure and bowling some amazing spells, that’s exactly what he did for Gujarat Titans in qualifier game vs Mumbai Indian where he picked 5 wicket haul and turned the entire game in the Titan’s pocket.

3.Rashid Khan

Here we go again with another Gujarat Titan’s bowler Rashid Khan, who is still an unplayable bowler for most of the batsmen in t20 cricket. In terms of wickets, Rashid has always been impressive in almost every season of the Indian premier league. Likewise, Rashid Khan has grabbed 27 wickets out of 17 matches and became 3rd bowler who has most wickets in ipl 2023.

There are many mysterious leg spinners who came in the history of t20 cricket but after some time batsman’s starts reading them very well but in case of Rashid Khan, it is thoroughly different he has playing all most every major league cricket and IPL as well but because of his subtle change in his google and leg spin it becomes almost impossible for batsman to know what delivery he is going to bowl.

Another thing which puts cherry on the cake in his bowling is his arm speed which comes quite faster than most of the spinners. These are the reasons behind his hat-trick in 2023 IPL season vs Kolkata Knight Riders where he deceived hard hitter batsmans like Russell and Narine.

4.Piyush Chawla

The leading wicket taker from Mumbai Indians in 2023 season, Piyush Chawla who showed his leg spin master class throughout the season which brings him in 4th spot in the list of most wickets in ipl 2023 where he scalped 22 wickets out of 16 ipl games with the economy rate of 8.11 per over.

In terms of bowling in IPL 2023, all the former bowlers of this league rose up whether it can be Sandeep Sharma, Mohit Sharma or Piyush Chawla. Nobody could have thought before the start of the season that these underrated bowlers can be destructive for opponent teams.

Piyush Chawla is a bowler who scalps 2 or 3 wickets in every game with his unexpected and unplayable google deliveries which helps the team to have upper hand in the game. He may not have 4 or 5 wicket haul but he consistently provided wickets to captain Rohit Sharma whenever the match was going away from his hands.

5.Yuzvendra Chahal

The man who is always entertaining on field and off field as well with his social media presence. But when it comes to sending batsmens’ in the dressing room he shows no mercy

to them. Rajasthan Royals leg spinner, Chahal has played 14 matches in which he took 22 wickets and became the 5th player to have most wickets in ipl 2023.

Despite giving amazing performance with the ball, Royals did not manage to enter in the qualifiers which is quite disappointing if we look at their position in points table in the first half of the ipl 2023 season. Though in some matches Yuzvendra Chahal was a bit expensive especially in the home ground matches of SMS stadium of Jaipur which is one of Smallest Ground of cricket In India.

Moreover, Chahal played an essential role in the royals camp as he was the match winner of the team along with players like Buttler and Samson. Unlike other bowlers in the list, Chahal has bowled most of his overs between 16-20 overs which is considered as slog overs, so in that case he sometimes can go wicket less with high economy rate or even he can grab 5 wicket haul as well.

Conclusion

Regardless of all this experienced bowlers there are many young talents as well in this list of most wickets in ipl 2023, Pathirana from Sri Lanka who is also known as baby malinga for the similar action and Noor Ahmed from Afghanistan who action is inspired by his idol Rashid Khan and Akash Madhwal as well from Mumbai Indians. These all players may not be in this list, but for sure they will dominate this short format cricket in the coming years.
