Since a while, in the past few years, many of the valuable cars have started selling at the same price as private jets. However, the reason behind the high prices of the cars is very vague, but it goes down to be the intangible. The race and the history, especially when it is linked with the name of the household, depicts up value. Rarity is also one of the things that has been given. Although, no matter what, the cars that cost the most are the ones that have the best stories behind them as well.

1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta, Chassis 3851GT

This car was auctioned by the Bonham’s in Carmel, California, on August 14, 2014

This 250GT was the favorite car when it won the debut, and Ferrari proven to be the top racing car by 1962. The body of this car was made by Scaglietti and it was sold to Schlesser, who was an engineer and a private racer, who shared the driving duty with his friend Henri Oreillier, an ex-professional skier. Unfortunately, during the second race of the car Henri was killed and the vehicle was also heavily damaged, which was repaired at the Ferrari factory and later sold to an Italian privateer.

1957 Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti, Chassis 0674

This car was auctioned by Artcurial in Paris, France, on February 5, 2016

Chassis began to live as a Scaglietti bodies 315S race car by the factory, which was entered by Scuderia Ferrari in 1957. It was finished sixth and it was also driven by the factory drivers Peter Collins and Maurice Trintignant.

After being raced across the public roads by Mille Miglia, it was returned to the factory to have the displacement increases, turning the car into a 335S. the 335S was raced privately for two years and later retired from competition completely.

Enzo Ferrari was very hopeful for this car to secure the title of the world’s sportscar championship, which had dominated several years ago after the inauguration. But lost to the model of Mercedes Benz in the year 1955. Engineer Jano was adamant and he convinced Enzo to mount a v12 once again between the fender walls after using four to six cylinders for several years. Behind all the other hands that were equally famous, the car was followed up well at the very famous Nürburgring, Rouen-Les-Essarts, and Kristianstad, earning second place.

 

1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 N.A.R.T. Spider, Chassis 10709

It was auctioned by RM Sotheby’s in Monterey, California, on August 17, 2013

Being sold to a buyer brand new, in California, this one family car was among the ten N.A.R.T spiders that had ever been built. The full form of NART is north American racing team, and it was also amounted to a badge on the Scaglietti bodywork. The car was dark blue from the factory and most of its time was spent in that shade, until the time it was repainted into the typical red. However, the normal drop of the value that can be brought upon by a change in color had very little example on the pristine rare car.

After some years, the car was judged apparently, to which the owner replied, “Well, if that’s not original, I’ll be as surprised as you are, because it was on there when I picked the car up (from the factory) myself in Modena.”

Chassis 10709 was in the same family till 2013, but when it went on sale, it was the highest priced race car to have ever been sold through auction.

 

1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale, Chassis 06701

Price: $26,400,000

It was auctioned by RM Sotheby’s in Monterey, California, on August 16, 2014

This was the first of the only three in number built, 06701. It was built by hand, to defend the marque’s dominance when it comes to the car racing part in sports. During this time, Ferrari was under great pressure as the American Shelby Cobra Daytnas and the Ford GT40s were chasing the company’s 250 GTOs down. The engineers did a number of first time trials and it was the first Ferrari to have mounted an independent suspension and the first ever to have mounted a transaxle gearbox.

1954 Mercedes-Benz W196R, Chassis 196 010 00006/54

Price: $25,244,909

It was auctioned by Bonhams in Chichester, England, on July 12, 2013

Streamlines and sleek, when it came to the national German racing shade, silver it was meant to restore the German contention to the highest levels of international motorsports. But this time in the new formula one series, which was four years old during that time.
