Chef's Uniform

In case you work in a restaurant or hotel, you’re bound to get dirty. It doesn’t matter whether you’re cooking or not, unexpected spills can happen any time, which is why wearing a chef’s uniform is mandatory. It should be known that chef uniforms are an investment and in general, you have to properly maintain your investments, so that they can last for a long time.

The following are some useful tips that you can utilise to correctly maintain your chef uniforms

Tips & Tricks For Properly Maintaining Chef Uniforms

  • Read The Care Labels

Most people make the mistake of not reading their uniform care labels and thus proceed to wash their chef uniforms in the same manner as they do their other clothes. But, the truth is – you should always read your uniform labels and follow the suggested care instructions given by the manufacturer. Care instructions are provided just to ensure that your uniform lasts for an extended period (only if you’re able to follow them).

You shouldn’t assume that every type of chef’s uniform has the same type of care instructions. The care instructions vary based on the material types used in the manufacturing of such uniforms.

  • Take Care Of Stains Immediately

It doesn’t matter whether you work as a head chef or a waiter/waitress, stains and spills will take place and then the best way to deal with them is to treat them as they happen. The treatment procedure will depend on the type of stain you’ll be dealing with.

Before you proceed to treat any stain or spill on your chef’s uniform, you mustn’t rub the stain or spill. Rubbing can ingrain the grease, sauce or oil deep into the fibres of your chef’s uniform. Instead, choose to use some club soda over the stain or spill, and you’ll be good to go. Once you reach your home, don’t forget to give the uniform a thorough wash.

  • Keep A Backup Uniform

It’s essential to have a backup uniform, especially when you’re working in the hospitality industry or business. Having a backup uniform ensures that in any case your main uniform gets damaged, you can quickly proceed to treat the stain while having the second uniform to use for the time being.

  • Avoid Using Bleach

Chef uniforms generally tend to be white and if you believe using bleach is the ideal way to keep white uniforms ‘white’, then you couldn’t be more wrong. Using bleach on white garments increases yellowing. Instead of using traditional bleach, you can use oxygen-based bleach, which will help in keeping your chef uniforms clean, bright and white.
