What Are The Largest Companies Headquartered in Los Angeles

Los Angeles is home to many successful businesses just like other large cities like San Francisco or New York City. But what are the largest companies that headquarter themselves out of Los Angeles?

In this article, we’ll look at six of the largest companies based out of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. These companies vary but all play a crucial role in the economy of the region as well as in shaping industries worldwide.

Many of the companies on this list are based in the city limits of Los Angeles, such as the firm mentioned in this story. However, others are based in neighboring and nearby cities that are still considered to be part of Greater Los Angeles, or the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

The main cities that are included within this metropolitan area are: Los Angeles, Anaheim, Bakersfield, Burbank, Carson, Chino, Compton, Fullerton, Glendale, Irvine, Inglewood, Lancaster, Long Beach, Riverside, San Bernardino, Santa Clarita, Thousand Oaks, Ventura, and many others.

We will note the exact city each company is headquartered in, but it is important to note that the companies in this list are going to be headquartered throughout the Los Angeles metropolitan area, not just the official city limits of Los Angeles.

1.Disney

Disney is headquartered in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, within the city limits of

Burbank. Burbank is located just 12 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, and borders Hollywood.

While Disney was founded in 1923, it wasn’t until 1940 that they would be able to move from their small office in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles to the location of their headquarters today, in Burbank.

2.Molina Healthcare

Headquartered in Long Beach, Molina Healthcare is the second largest company based out of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The company was founded in 1980 by David Molina, who had been working as an emergency room physician.
The company provides individuals with services to help them access government programs such as Medicaid and Medicare. Their main focus is on helping low-income residents in the United States who do not have access to healthcare.

3.Edison International

Up until just a few years ago, AECOM Technology group had claimed the spot of third largest in Los Angeles, but moved their headquarters to Dallas in 2021 alongside many other large companies in the region, such as CBRE Group who also relocated their headquarters from Los Angeles to Dallas in 2020.

Edison International is a public holding company, comprising primarily Southern California Edison, one of the largest electric utilities providers in the United States, as they serve millions of customers across Southern California.

The company is headquartered in Rosemead, California, and was first established in 1909 as Southern California Edison Company, but has roots to Holt & Knupps, a company that was founded in 1886.

4.Farmers Insurance Exchange

Based in Woodland Hills, which is a city in the Los Angeles metropolitan area roughly between Thousand Oaks and the city of Los Angeles. The group was founded in 1928 by John C. Tyler and Thomas E. Leavey after the two believed farmers and ranchers deserved lower insurance premiums.

The company offers a wide range of insurance products catered toward farmers and ranchers. This includes auto insurance, life insurance, home insurance, renters insurance, and other various commercial insurance.

5.Activision Blizzard

Until Microsoft’s $68.7 billion dollar deal to buy Activision Blizzard closes, they will remain the fifth largest company based out of the Los Angeles area. Of course, they only had just recently acquired the 5th spot as Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co. moved their headquarters to Scottsdale, Arizona in 2022.

Activision Blizzard is a video game holding company that owns many well known and popular video game titles, such as Call of Duty, Crash Bandicoot, Guitar Hero, Diablo, Overwatch, Candy Crush, and many others.

6.A-Mark Precious Metals, Inc.

In 2021, A-Mark Precious Metals, Inc. was ranked as the 9th largest company to be headquartered in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, but has since moved to 6th place in just a couple years.

Avery Dennison Corp. had previously claimed the spot as 6th largest in Los Angeles up until 2021 when they opted to move to Mentor, Ohio.

A-Mark Precious Metals is a precious metals trading company, as the name suggests. They buy and sell a wide range of products from coins to raw minerals such as Platinum, Gold, and Silver.
