There’s nothing quite like the yachting lifestyle, offering you the opportunity to explore new places in a truly luxurious setting. However, for those who are new to yacht vacations, deciding what to wear can be stressful.

On the one hand, as you’re on a boat in the middle of the ocean, you need to pick attire that’s both comfortable and practical. However, on the other hand, you want to make sure you look your best.

If you’re already worrying about what to pack for your next luxury yacht charter, the fashion guide below will tell you everything you need to know.

Turn to designer collections

Many designer brands including Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Ralph Lauren have launched their own “cruise collections”, which are designed to help you look stylish and sophisticated when at sea. These collections tend to feature staples such as crew neck tops, flattering wide-leg trousers, and elegant jackets to protect you from the sea breeze in the evenings.

Make sure you pick garments that are suited to your chosen destination. For example, if you’re going on a Greece yacht charter in the summer, you’ll need clothes to keep you cool as temperatures can get very high.

Embrace accessories

Although you may feel like you have to pack light for a sailing trip, there’s always room for a few accessories such as sunglasses, hats, and scarves.

When choosing sunglasses for your yacht vacation, make sure you pick a pair that has polarised lenses and that offers maximum UV protection from the sun’s powerful rays. Both scarves and hats can be used to complement your outfit of choice and also to keep your hair out of your face when the local winds pick up.

Take soft bags

You should always take soft bags with you when on a sailing vacation, as hard bags cancause damage to the decks and timberwork of a boat. Opt for a large, soft bag that provides plenty of room for all your essentials, as well as a few luxury items that you can’t live without.

Don’t forget that you’re surrounded by water, so waterproof storage for important documents and any electrical devices that you bring is a must.

Choose lightweight and wrinkle-resistant fabrics

When it comes to dressing up, you should choose items that are lightweight and made from wrinkle-resistant fabrics such as wool, cotton, and polyester. If you’re having dinner on the yacht, you’ll probably want to wear standard cocktail attire, but make sure that the outfits you choose are suitable for wearing on a boat. For example, dresses should be knee-length or longer, and high heels aren’t a good idea.

For men, chinos, a polo shirt or light shirt, and a pair of loafers or boat shoes are a good choice.

The bottom line

Ultimately, what you wear on a luxury yacht vacation is up to you, unless you’re going on a shared cruise and there’s a dress code that you need to adhere to. Make sure that the clothing you pack is suitable for wearing at sea, but that it also makes you feel good because you are on vacation, after all!
