Cycling is one of the most complex hobbies you can have. Not only is it one of the best workouts you can get as you work virtually every part of your body, but you also have the opportunity to expand your social connections and become a more active part of your community. For starters, you get to engage with other individuals who share the same passion as you, meaning that you get to discuss and spend time with people who share your hobby.

However, that’s not the only thing. You can also choose special cycling programmes created to encourage cycling for charity. You can choose several routes depending on the difficulty level you feel comfortable with. Regardless, you should know you’ll be supported by the organisers every step of the way, no matter which route you choose.

London to Paris cycle

One of the most noteworthy cycling events on the list. Taking place between the 19th and the 23rd of July, the route goes from London to Calais, Arras and Compiègne all the way to Paris. This fundraising event is not to be missed if you’re up for a cycling challenge and feel like you’re up to the task. Every pound raised will go towards funding life-changing research aiming to improve the lives of vulnerable children struggling with serious health conditions. If reaching your destination and seeing the Eiffel Tower in the distance won’t provide you with a feeling of achievement, knowing you’re making a real difference in the lives of so many people surely will.

London-Essex 100

Taking place at the end of May, this cycling route is a unique opportunity to ride on roads that are completely free of traffic. The event is the perfect mix of challenging and relaxing, mixing hills and the countryside with London’s most notable landmarks. The event aims to raise funds to help continue research into cerebral palsy that can help patients lead a better life and face the challenges of their condition with better treatment options on their side.

London to Brighton

On June 18th, 2023, you can take part in this well-known 54-mile ride from the English capital straight to the seaside on Brighton beach. The ride is suited to all abilities, so you can join whether you’ve just taken up cycling or if you’ve been doing it for years. The minimum fundraising target is £300, so you’ll be required to pay a registration fee of only £25. Your efforts will help charities provide funding for medical research efforts that can help improve the lives of children.

Maratona dles Dolomites – Enel

Taking place at the beginning of July, this ride is one of the most important cycling events in all of Europe. You could even say that participating is a must for any cycling enthusiast. There are three route options, off 138, 106 and 55 km, respectively, so you can choose the one most suitable for you. Action Medical Research is the only UK charity that secured places at this event, so you have the opportunity to participate and have fun, all while knowing you’re actively helping people change children’s lives.

RIDE Castle

Taking place in October 2023, this event usually includes roughly 800 riders. It’s an excellent opportunity to experience the best views the Kent countryside has to offer. Much like in the case of the other events, RIDE Castle aims to raise money in support of Action Medical Research, which seeks to help and support disabled babies and children. If you’ve participated before, you probably remember that the event used to take place in May. However, in 2023 it was delayed due to the King’s Coronation taking place at the same time as the original date.

If you’re looking to do something that’s good for you and your community at the same time, there’s nothing better than pedalling into a charity-sponsored cycling event.
