A self-driving cherry picker hire, also known as a van-mounted cherry picker, is essentially a flat-back picking vehicle with a boom/lift at the back. These types of machines go by many different names, at the company I work for, Cherry Picker Ltd, we call them UDrives.
The sizes of these machines vary, the range we have in stock is as follows:
- 1490 – This means that the machine can reach a height of 14 meters (46 feet) and has a range of 9 meters (30 feet).
- 1812: This means that the machine can reach a height of 18 meters (60 feet) and has a range of 12 meters (40 feet).
- 2190: This means that the machine can reach a height of 21 meters (69 feet) and has a range of 9 meters (30 feet).

You have made these decisions, you will be in a better position to choose what type of platform you need. Lift platforms, whether they are cherry pickers or trailer mounted, can reach a height of up to 30 meters, and there are even compact industrial booms as small as 1 meter wide. Trailer-mounted lifts can be easily moved and quickly set up with hydraulic or manual operation. Scissor lifts are available from all major manufacturers, with heights from 6 to 20 meters. These only extend their reach vertically, but many of them are narrow enough to be used in warehouses. If the size is an issue and you are only going to use your platform in tight spaces, a personnel lift might be suitable. They are generally cheaper than boom lifts or scissor lifts and can be used more easily in tight spaces that a self-propelled platform would have a difficult time entering.

Any decent rig vendor makes sure any used equipment has been thoroughly checked and reconditioned before it is handed over to the customer. Many places even supply complete kits with a warranty, so it’s pretty much like new!
