How to avoid overworking.

Follow the tips below to avoid overworking.

  • Don’t be a yes-man. A yes-man is someone who can’t say no to people. You’re not responsible for every task so learn to say No. Be clear in your mind on what your key priorities and areas of focus should and need to be and let your focus be set on tasks that are in such categories. Don’t feel bad to turn people away, but do it in a friendly way.
  • Focus on the important tasks. Whenever you resume work, list out the things you must complete by the end of the day. But you must be realistic with these tasks, don’t overwhelm yourself unnecessarily by listing out the tasks that will ordinarily take a week to complete and jam-packing them into a day’s schedule.
  • It is not healthy to sit behind your desk from morning till dawn. Aside from going on lunch break, you should occasionally take a break from work even during work hours. But you’ll have to be strategic with doing this, you can’t afford to be reckless with such breaks. These breaks from work are recommended to help you reinvigorate your spirit whenever you feel you are in a rut with the task at hand.
  • Try to keep from working when you get home. Unless it is absolutely necessary it is ill-advised to continue working at home. Home should be a place where you work on your personal development, get some me time, relax, chill and gist with your family and friends after a long day at work. Don’t corrupt this essence by bringing uncompleted tasks from the office to your personal space.
  • Minimize distractions. Whenever you resume work, avoid the different distractions from your phones, emails, colleagues that may want to steal your attention from your job. In most cases, you’ll want to make up for the lost time by overworking.
