Traveling solo frees the mind. It encourages you to escape into your own thoughts and engage with the world at your own pace. New York City is an ideal solo destination because it provides entertainment and wonder at every turn. It’s hard to be bored and feel alone in the Big Apple when there’s things to do 24/7. At Arlo SoHo Hotel NYC, we encourage solo travelers to go boldly into the city, using our hotel as a tranquil “home base.” It’s the perfect spot where guests can recharge and refuel before heading back out into the city that never sleeps. 

NYC’s plentiful options and “never sleeps” attitude give solo travelers the chance to engage with the city at their own pace. They can spend one day walking 10 miles, stopping at takeout vendors from Chinatown to Kips Bay and everything in between. Or they can gaze at the majesty of the Flat Iron building, coffee in hand, and then retire to our hotel for a long nap. There’s no agenda or committee with solo traveler, simply a “choose your own adventure” style of fun.

Eating in NYC is certainly different due to the pandemic’s restrictions, but takeout food or sitting safely outdoors is ideal for the solo traveler. You can chow down on a make your own salad or a hot dog and eat at one of the city’s amazing parks or take in views out over the Hudson. If you’re traveling in the spring or summer and the pandemic has faded, then take advantage of the plentiful bar seating and many happy hours. Until then, enjoy some of the great outdoor activities such as bird watching in Central Park, or tying on your skates at Wollman Rink. And the best NYC activity of them all? Simply taking a walk and enjoying the small details that make this city the best place in the world to visit.
