The Michigan high school football culminates this weekend as eight state champions will be crowned in what’s been a long, off-and-on season.
In MHSAA Division 1, 11-0 Davison kept its repeat hopes alive with a 27-3 pasting of Rockford as senior back Te’Avion Warren ran for 162 yards and two scores while Dion Brown added 97 yards passing and a scoring strike to Jaylen Murray Flowers. The Cardinals face West Bloomfield in the first meeting between the two schools.
The Lakers got a defensive stop in the second overtime to beat Belleville 35-34. West Bloomfield back Donovan Edwards rushed for three scores as the Lakers are back in a title contest for the first time since losing 3-2 to Clarkston in 2017.
In Division 2, defending champion Mona Shores looks to repeat, but has De La Salle Collegiate in its way. The Sailors have made the postseason in seven of the past eight seasons, while the Pilots are looking for their fourth state crown. Two of De La Salle Collegiate’s titles (2014 and 2018) have come over Mona Shores.
