MI vs CSK: Memorable Final Clashes

Let us now look at some of the memorable knockout clashes that took place between MI and CSK, especially in the grand finale of the tournament.

1. IPL 2010 Final:

In the IPL 2010 final, it was the first time the Mumbai Indians met CSK in the knockout stage.

  • Further, it turned out to be the edge of a thriller game.
  • While batting first, CSK scored a modest total of 168 runs for the loss of five wickets.
  • It was their bowler who produced a stunning display of bowling and restricted the CSK team by 146 for the loss of nine wickets.
  • The Super Kings won the match as well as the IPL 2010 title by 22 runs.
  • This was the first title that was won by the CSK team.

2. IPL 2013 final:

In the IPL 2013 final, the Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first.

  • The Mumbai Indians were able to score only 148 runs for the loss of nine wickets.
  • Kieron Pollard played a scintillating knock of 60 runs.
  • CSK, while batting second, ended their innings on 125 runs for the loss of nine wickets.
  • MSD top scored with 63 runs.
  • MI won the title and the match by 23 runs.

3. IPL 2019 Final:

In the year 2019, once again, the final match was played between MI and CSK.

  • In this particular game, the Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first. 
  • The Mumbai Indians scored a meager total of 149 runs for the loss of eight wickets.
  • While batting second, the Chennai Super Kings fell short by 1 run to win the match and the coveted title as they scored 148 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.
  • The Mumbai Indians not only lifted the trophy, but they also won the match by a narrow margin.

Most-run getters & wicket-takers for both CSK & Mumbai Indians against each other

  1. Most Runs: From the CSK camp, it is Suresh Raina, who scored a total run of 710 against the Mumbai Indians, whereas from the Mumbai Indian camp, Rohit Sharma scored around 700 runs against the CSK.
  2. Most Wickets: In the bowling department, Dwayne Bravo for the CSK team has picked up 35 wickets against the MI team, and Lasith Malinga for the MI team has picked up around 31 wickets when they take on the CSK.

Bottom Line

It can be concluded that whenever both of these giants meet each other in the tournament, it is the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians who have dominated the MSD-led CSK team in terms of numbers. On the other hand, CSK is just four wins away from reaching the MI numbers.
